RIN: energy efficiency in the Ruhr

The wmr supports the energy transition taking place across the districts of the Ruhr. The Regional Innovation Network (RIN) devoted to energy efficiency in the Ruhr is aiming to optimise the energy consumed by the region’s housing stock.

The wmr has defined 2,000 districts within the Ruhr, accumulating data such as current power supplies, the condition of buildings and the social structure. The wmr uses this unique information source to provide all interested parties with an overview of feasible and reasonable measures as well as suitable residential areas where energy efficiency can potentially be greatly enhanced.

The reality of practical implementation will be decided by a pilot scheme in Mülheim-Heissen.

Meanwhile the work of the network will be academically underpinned by doctoral candidates from the Ruhr University in Bochum, TU Dortmund, Bochum University of Applied Sciences, the University of Duisburg-Essen and researchers from the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
