Key facts about the real estate market

The polycentric structure of the Metropole Ruhr means that it can offer a wide range of investment opportunities in an extremely broad spectrum of sectors and real estate market segments.

In 2007 around 4.4 billion euros were invested in real estate. The cities of Essen, Duisburg, Dortmund and Bochum were able to achieve new records thanks to a significant rise in turnover for office space. Throughout the region as a whole approximately 500,000 sq. m of rental space were let. This places the Metropole Ruhr a respectable fifth in the nationwide comparison, almost on a par with Berlin and leaving the Düsseldorf economic area behind it.

Peak rents stand at around 12.50 euro/sq.m, a plus of 4.2 % over the previous year. Average rents currently stand at 8.4 euro/sq.m.

With the goal of providing a rapid overview of the key facts of the real estate market, the Wirtschaftsförderung metropoleruhr economic development agency has combined its own real estate reports with those of various other sources, such as real estate companies or municipalities. The reports are available for downloading and refer to the entire region, a sub-area or individual municipalities.

In the search for specific locations the services offered by the regional real estate exchange ruhrsite and the personal assistance of the wmr investor service staff can be utilised.
