Loick initially developed through producing bio-packaging chips. Today the company also produces hundreds of cubic metres of insulating materials in the new German states which help protect the environment and are crucial to industry. Over the course of the years, other maize-based products have been added to the product portfolio. ‘Play maize’ for example is found in many children’s bedrooms – cylinder-shaped building blocks in different colours. The blocks are produced using maize and water and then coloured using food colourings. Bio-plastics now also form an important component of Loick AG. These plastics decompose after a relatively short lifespan. The main focus lays on the production and marketing of biodegradable catering utensils. The Loick group has been working for many years in research and development with the Fraunhofer Institute for the Environment, Safety and Energy Technology (UMSICHT). This partnership has a promising future: the holding company, to which many of the companies belong, generates an annual turnover of several millions of euros.
