Dinslaken is situated in the Rheinschiene region along the river Rhine, between the Ruhr and the Lower Rhine areas. Four autobahn connections, a federal road and several major roads provide ideal transport connections. In addition, the town has an excellent public transport infrastructure, with regular direct connections to Cologne and Düsseldorf, including the airport.

The town with its great leisure and recreational value has become an attractive residential area for many people from the Ruhr district. A population of almost 73,000 confirms Dinslaken's excellent quality of living, surrounded by the Rheinauen nature reserve and the Hohe Mark nature park, among others. In addition, the town offers a wide range of cultural activities. Especially the annual Fantastival at the open-air theatre at the old castle deserves a mention - one week of pure theatre delight, frequently featuring renowned international stars.
